Friends visited the London Cloth Company Mill

The French Hospital organised a special Friends’ event at the London Cloth Company Mill on Monday, 2 October 2017.

The London Cloth Company Mill was opened in October 2011 by Daniel Harris and is the first micro-mill to open in London. The mill is also the first cloth mill in the capital for over one hundred years. They specialise in quality woven cloth, particularly woollens, produced on their ever-expanding range of carefully restored shuttle looms dating from the 1870s. Most of their looms have been rescued from abandoned woollen mills around the UK and painstakingly restored and brought back into work. Everything is done on site, using techniques which have not changed for hundreds of years.

Friends had the opportunity to tour the working mill, as well as hear Jonathan Ouvry, a Director of The French Hospital and a member of the Worshipful Company of Weavers, speak about the history of weaving and his own fascinating family connections to this industry.
