Friends visit to The Clockmakers’ Museum
Richard Garnier, a Director of The French Hospital, and former Head of Clocks and Watches at Christie’s, led our Friends on a tour of the Clockmakers’ Museum in London in early December 2016. Richard gave an in-depth tour of the collection to us, and spoke about the Huguenot connection to clock making over drinks later in the day.
The Clockmakers’ Museum is the oldest collection in the world specifically of clocks and watches, and considered to be one of the finest. It contains some 600 English and European watches, 30 clocks and 15 marine timekeepers, together with a number of rare horological portraits. The majority of items range from c.1600 to c.1850 and they are cared for by The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. We hope to plan more events with Richard in the future.
